Hi All, I am almost half way through my mini clubman (1380cc,lsd sc box etc) full race car build (this car will not be used on the road) .
As I have never done this before what I need to know is... Has anyone out there (with race experience) got a basic race set-up that I can use as a starting point? (fr & rear, height, caster, camber, etc)
What I have fitted so far:
Front:-
Race Donuts
Hi-Lows
Rose jointed/Ajustable bottom Arms
Rose jointed/Ajustable Tie bars
Long T/rod ends
Gaz ajustable short dampers

Rear:-
Hi-lows
Caster
&
Camber brackets
Gaz ajustable short dampers
Std little/Used Donuts

Ft & Rear 10x 6 GB alloys with Yokohma 165/70/10 A032

I dont know if it makes any difference but it will be running a LSD

With thanks Alex

Alex, if you do a serch theres a few topics with setting in.
The next step is how you drive or how you'd like the car to drive.
It wil be a case of a basic set up then do a shakedown on the track and take it from there.
Things like the miglia lads run loads of toe out on the rear tgus giving it a rear wheel steer feeling and very loose. To be honest although it makes them fast to the basic of drivers it would no doubt make it slower until you have the experance etc.

What specific racing are you using it for?

If you trawl around this site you get a mixed bag of settings. I generally recommend the following to start with.

Front
Camber -1 to -1.5
Caster 3.5 to 4 (you can go higher, but with the LSDstarting low is the best idea)
toe 1.6mm out

Rear
Camber 0 to -0.5
Toe 2mm in

These are a safe basic guide. Once you drive it, you can adjust it dpending on how you drive and how the car feels.

Wil. Why would you run toe in on the rear on a race car?

We've been through this. Why would you ever run toe out at the rear on a mini?

Lol.

Thats why suspension settings are a personal thing.

I like the rear loose but my bro hates it and drives faster with toe in
simple

I have been around the site and get a very mixed bag!
Your settings below are what I was thinking!
What about the hight? The rear end is tubed?? (The car still needs to be MOTed but will not be on the road)

No wories, Veg and I have a history of different views on rear setup. I like to crash forwards, he likes to crash backwards!!

My front is set so the bottom arm is level at rest and the raer is 10 to 15mm higher (measured at the front and rear of the sill lip).

You may not be able to go that low on the front without modifing the front bumpstops.

It's just that I cannot get my car around corners with toe in or even straight rear wheels. It understeers. If someone gets their car to do what they want with toe in, fine. However, I'd advise on running parallel rear wheels due to less drag.

Toe out needs hot tyres though.

I run front and rear ARBs. I coud not get the front stiff enough with the rubber doughnust available. The beauty is that you can use the ARBs to alter the balance of the car.

I think we can see from this thread that handling is all down to personal preference.

I'd personally start with a neutral setup like wil has suggested and go from there.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

I don't like this all this talk of loose back ends!

That man in the video seems to be in a real hurry to get somewhere. If he slowed down a little he may be able to keep the car going in the right direction! *Rofl!*

i had on my 998 when it was on the road...

front:
-1.5 camber
1/16th toe out
4deg caster
210mm from sill seam

rear:
-0.5 deg camber
1/16th toe in
230mm from sill seam

it handled very well with 6x10" wheels!

Thanks for that guys. Info like that is such a great help!

As I said before I have 10x 6 GB alloys with Yokohma 165/70/10 A032
I also have a set of exaction's(1100 Special) that have been to force racing and now are 10x7 splitrims fitted with stretched Yokohma 165/70/10 A032 (Would the stretched tyres get through a MOT?)

Is there any benefit fitting the 10x7's over the 10x6's with them having the same tyre?
