Is it posssible to make a cable by splicing a rj11 to a usb?
13.95 1/4 mile on a 2.95 fd. Carnt be that hard to beat! |

rj11>serial is about 6 pounds from MJ i think and the serial > usb 20 from maplins at worst; wheres the 50? |

I wanted to avoid goin to serial and then to usb. The 1 I used was rubbish and always disscontected from the laptop 13.95 1/4 mile on a 2.95 fd. Carnt be that hard to beat! |

buy an old laptop then, personally going from rj11 to usb your gonna struggle as there are no drivers for it; that im aware and im sure it would be more readily avaliable if it was easy enough.

Personally i would use a rj11 to rj45 patch lead and put a rg45 to usb adpater on the end

I'd just use a laptop with a real serial port If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |

You cant just wire a serial signal into a USB port. It's not just a different shape port and getting wires the right shape to plug together that is the issue, it's a different signal. You need to either use a serial port, or buy a USB to serial converter which translates the signal to something a USB port and your serial device will understand. The RJ45 lan adapter also won't work as ethernet and serial are not the same signal either. |
