I did a section 165 today

Chatting to the traffic officer about the section 165 act it transpires that if you live say in Cornwall and book an MOT in Scotland you can drive to the MOT station without an MOT, i always believed that you had to book one within a reasonable distance, they told me that they had stopped a car recently nr Swindon for no MOT the chap had bought the car and was traveling to Wales for his MOT and as he had insurance they could do nothing.

Though was interesting enough to share.

I assume you need to have booked it in at said testing station though, since if you haven't and they phone them, they'll still feel your collar

i drive all the way across town for mine it goes to an old school tester, tbh never had a problem (almost always get pulled though) aslong as its booked in there cool :)

could drive around for weeks like that couldnt you - if you had enough MOT stations to piss off

I've been test driving mine round the estate where the garage is "on my way to the MOT" for weeks. Just seem to keep missing the entrance and ending back where I started. Helps if you know the MOT man and fix his computer when it breaks...

To be fair! when I worked at the garage we didn't do MOT's we sent them to one in Finedon But really we should of sent them to the one in Burton latimer where we was, as its the closest one to the garage.

In all fairness my boss always carried out PRE mot checks before driving them up to the mot station, if he thought they was unsafe he'd tell the customer and then sort the problem out before going up :)
