Hi, my mate and I were chatting yesterday about racing, and as we both own minis we thought it would be an easy starter car. We both go to the same uni, and after some persuasion our head tutor has agreed to let us try and start a society, which will give us some funding, and we have also got preliminary interest/sponsorship from the uni's own racing team, UH Racing.

Well hill climbing is a good starting point. Have a look at the hill climb and sprint association, link below.

Find your local MSA motor club an see what they do. Autosolos and autotests are good starter disciplines that can be done on a very low budget with standard cars. |

Thanks for the info, managed to contact the Green Belt Motor Club, to see if they do any suitable events.

The big advantage from sprints/ hillclimbs (not speaking from experiance, ben prob can ) is that it will be a lot cheaper to do simply as your just racing for the clock rather than side by side on circuit, so you wont get shunted off etc and in throry have un expected costs.

Plus the sprints/hillclimbs have a road car class, so you can pretty much race in your road car.

The a series engine isn't the problem, it's the forced induction http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.p...tid=469104&fr=0 |

Currently, to run a 1275 turbo mini in hillclimbing is not really possible. There is no class.
Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

Next year there is likely to be a change in the rules to enable you to run in modified production classes up to 2000cc. Surely you just get bumped into a larger engine capacity class because of the turbo ? You could very easily just run in the road car class if it was road legal ? as it doesnt have such limitations. It just requires an original type of engine ( and interior etc to be fitted ). ie an A-series easily covers that. 9.85 @ 145mph

The current msa rules for speed events do not allow a car to run outside of its capacity class. This means as a mini was never built over 1400cc it can't run in the up to 2000cc class. This is just the rules. As wil said there are moves to change this. Hence why very few people here hill climb and sprint. When the rules change there will be excuses.
