How many of you actually use them? I was planning on using them until I did a search on google and they got a bad review by many people, apparently they don't clamp evenly and leak under boost?

Here's a couple of threads:

And the threads go on.. any ideas?

Yes for exhausts, no for boost hoses. Foir boost hoses use jubilee type clamps. You can get some really nice ones with an inner ring is you want fancy ones.

Poop! I've got virtually all these on my boost hoses

Would I be better swapping them?

There seems to be a lot I'd mixed reviews, some say you should use mikalor as jubilee types cut into the hose?

Apparently on the mikalor type, the part underneath the end of the bolt doesn't clamp as tight as the rest.

I think Paul S uses them, but general consensus is that they will leak in boost hose. Not sure about water, maybe better on smaller tubes.

As above, if you are wanting it to look nice there are some nice jubilee type clamps available.

Never had a problem.

Don't use the cheap ones that has a large size range. For example, the ones that John links to have a 55-59mm range which is very small, but ensures that they work properly.

Most jubilee clips are shite these days anyway.

I've used those on boost/water hoses on a few cars and don't have any problems.

But have you ever pressure tested them ?

I dont know how they could ever seal with water. Ive tested numerous times on boost pipes, and they leak pretty badly.
Only thing is, as the turbo is shifting so much air, chances of the leaks ever being noticed are slim, unless you do a static test and can actually feel the leaks.

You can get thin banded T-bolt clamps which do work well. But a good quality stainless Jubilee or SCS/Higrip equivalent is really all that should ever be needed for most applications.

If hoses are blowing off, it's because the pipe design or installation is bad.

Breeze also make some "constant torque" worm drive type clamps. Basically a glorified normal type, but they also work well. Ive used them on cars making 35+psi boost with no issues

Ensure all pipes are 100% clean and dry before assembly, and the metal pipes have a decent bead around them, either formed or welded ( doesnt even need to be a 360 bead ) and there will be no problems using normal hose clamps.

I abandoned using them on exhausts as I couldn't get a seal on a std 998...

And have you done a static pressure test on the system ? It can be surprising the leaks you find.

I think I will just use jubilee clips, with a bead around the pipe they won't go far.
