Hi all,i`ve got a 12G295 cylinder head which i picked up cheap,it came without valves and spring but i have bought new valves with springs off Ebay.I wanted ideally to refurb the head and sell it on,it needs re facing, and valve seats machining and fitting, plus probably new vave guides.I`d like anyones sensible input on price for the machine work?

I had a thread about this a few days ago, I'm sure a quick search would bring it up.

I'm looking to get the exact same work done to mine, and was quoted £200 which sounds like it's about the norm.

i think you'll struggle to make money on it if you cant do the work yourself.

one day boost will be mine!

£250 is more like what I normally pay to get a 295 done.
The £140+VAT quote seems remarkably cheap - the components required will be taking a large lump of that.

It is almost impossible to sell a cylinder head (especially a 295) for what you've spent on it.
Because the 295 has such massive chambers, it is ideal as a turbo head, but useless as an NA head unless it has a large lump skimmed off it. The size of the lump to be removed is dependant on the spec of the build, so any potential purchaser will probably be lookng at further machine shop costs anyway.

If you really are looking to make profit from this head, you'd be better off cleaning it, assembling it and selling it as-is, so the end user can modify to their wishes.
Unless you are Swiftune, Bill Richards, Benross et al, it is far easier to sell a decent complete 295 for £100 than it is to sell a spanky one for £400...

Metric is for people who can't do fractions.

Cheers for that Alex, its certainly sounds like the route i`ll take. The only problem i have is someone has already machined one of the valve seats out.So i can`t even put the head together.

I'd definitely be interested in that with that price.

It'll just have to wait until I've re-insured the car and have some money spare...
