wasnt driving it hard at all athough the drive took 30 minutes.
i dont plan to thrash my motor until its been on the rollers,
i've got a rather crap rad on the car the fins are all crushed and rotten, its off my 1275 cooper rsp, as long as you think 80 is ok and i keep an eye on it and dont hammer the motor it will do for the short term. i havent taken the car over 60mph to be honest to afraid of the motor going pop,
im taking every ones advice and gonna get it set up properly before letting out a bit.
thanks for the reply phil.

80's is good. Anything much over 90 then you need to start worrying, so you are fine at the moment. 100 is (obviously) boiling time, not good!

Resident Cylinder Head Modifier

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

just like to add chaps for the benefit of steve

that the thermostat is the MASTER controller of the engine temp
providing that the radiator is up to par for the power output of the engine!

having said that, your motor steve may well have a 82 or 88c stat fitted this is ok for economy but not for optimum power.

most power hungry guys on hear run a 74c stat which the
cooper S was fitted with many years ago

no good for economy, but keeps the engine at the right temp for optimum power.

there is also a slight downside to this as well, been that there is more tendancy for the oil to sludge up. if changed at the recommended 6000 mile service.

a rearity now adays with modern synthetic oils

but us petrol heads change the oil WELL under 3000miles so this does not come into play

some of you will know this

but if you dont you do now.*happy*

i've also got the heater matrix connected this is probably helping alot, if i just had the rad on its own in the state its in im shure it would be hotter
