if like me, i go slow and then speed up sometimes to make people like you think i am going to get a ticket.... hehe

Jokes, i think you are allowed 50mph +10% before your caught going over the limit, or people know that the cameras end before it says it ends.

My cars speedo says im doing 50mph but the sat nav says about 45mph, I always go by the sat nav at which point the speedo is saying 60mph when im doing about 55mph. I think the average speed cameras have quite alot of tolerance. So many times ive forgotten im in an average speed limit and my speed has crept up, and nothing has ever happend.

Dont get the question ?

Did you get nabbed by a camera, or do you disbelieve you are the only person not driving faster than whatever the posted limit is ?

Most vehicle manufacturers tend to calibrate the spedometer to be ~3mph slower than actual.

The requirement by law is that the speedometer must be calibrated at 30mph within -0% +10% Thus the speedometer cannot read less than 30mph or more than 33mph at an actual 30mph. If calibrated to 33mph indicated at 30mph actual (27mph actual at 30mph indicated), chances are you'll only be doing 47mph actual at 50mph indicated. Your sat nav would normally show this discrepancy, but also any of those community driveby speed indicating signs too.

One possability to explain your perception is that there may well be a percentage of error before you'll get a ticket, for example, there might be a 10% deadband before an instant ticket, meaning that you would have to be doing 55mph in a 50, for the distance. With average cameras 55mph average means that you are taking the piss, either with cruse control set for 55mph actual, or you drive erratically accelerating then backing off then accelerating again such that the average speed is at least 55mph. for example, if you did 60mph for half the distance then 40mph for the remaining half, your still only have done 50mph average yet broken the speed limit for at least half the distance.

I do the 50mph stretch of the M3 every day under the M25. People come flying past doing 70+ then brake when they see the camera as they reach the end of the AVERAGE check area. Not sure if they are blind or stupid. Not sure what they are set to I don't intent to find out. I know the vans that park up work as my licence will testify. I also have on reasonable authority that the traffic camera system and the highway agency wombles as clarkson calls both alert the police to anyone looking like they are trying to set a lap record.

People are stupid. I'm sure that plenty of people don't know what average means...

My A4 constantly reads 5% high.

They've put one of those signs up that tells you how fast you are going in a village near me. Unfortunately they've put it just before a right turn. Rear end shunts on that junction have increased dramatically...

I've always gone by the sat nav through the ave speed sections, generally this means you are one of the faster cars through the section. Thankfully the 18 mile section of the M1 that was 50mph for 2 1/2 years is now 4 lanes and back to the usual 90mph limit!!
The speedo in the car does read high in most things I've compared with the sat nav.

I always go through them at between 55 and 60, not got a ticket yet.

There has been a recent increase in people flying past me at 70+ then slamming the brakes on at the cameras only to then speed up again? Obviously they think they're being clever, but being really dumb. Basically slowing down to make sure the camera gets your number.

if you know the distance of the cameras, you can speed. break down (hard shoulder) and then speed again, if you really wanted to piss people off.

Only you can decide whether it is worth the risk of the scum sending you points out.

Although you also have to consider the actual logistics of them wiring up and making the cameras work on a temporary basis at roadworks. So do they actually work or not ?
It's a lot easier just to mount the poles and some warning signs.

Again....are you prepared to take that risk lol.

Someone I work with got done for 58 mph average in the 50 zone roadworks that are on the M62 in the Huddersfield area.

I tend to set the cruise 5mph above the spped limit and haven't had a ticket yet.

not all the cameras work anyway; at night, you can see the IR on the ones that are. The roadworks we had on the M80 recently were 13 miles long and only 2 sets of the cameras appeared to be operating.

I was talking to some coppers today that were interested in our clubs minis on display at an event. They say its 10% allowance in the west mids, but west mercia are bastards and only allow about 3% before they'll punish your ass for speeding. So it varies.

Befoer they were matrix'd they recon you could swap lanes to avoid the cam picking you up more than once. This depended on the lenght. Most road works seem to put them up weeks before and leave them up for weeks after..... I wonder why?

you can get infra red reflective film (like window tint) lets normal light through but not infra red (anpr's / speed cameras can pick up infra red so the number plate looks white with no letters)
this is equally banned although i know of people using it

When I first got the Tangerine on the road I was going to the MOT station, on my way there I passed one of the Ministry anpr cams with a copper a little way down the road which I assume would pull anyone the cams pick up. Now I drove straight by him with no mot or tax? I thought I would be pulled straight away but nothing. So my betting is the anpr cams cannot read ally regs.
