I'm now looking into making my own front hubs / uprights, so as to get the geometry as near to optimum as pos, due to fitting 13" wheels.

Now using adjustable top and bottom arms aswell as tie rods, most things can be optimised except the Kingpin angle and kingpin offset.
Standard mini KPI is 9.5, but to get a better kingpin offset I would need to increase the Kingpin angle, but as this also alters scrub radius and roll induced camber, how do you determine what is an acceptable Kingpin angle.

one that gives the scrub radius you want ,using the diameter of wheel you want ?
i vaguely remeber measuring the scrub radius on a stock mini at 25mm .
so if you know your wheel diameter ,and the scrub radius measurement ,could you draw it all out on a piece of paper to scale ,and work out what angle is needed ?

I'd sugest starting with rover metro hubs ala Denis, you'll get a much better scrub radius,

mind if your aiming to reduce scrub radius while keeping a sensible KPI a side effect will be narrowed front track if you keep your current upper arms. As a result of this i cant run coilovers with slicks, but could probably *just* manage with my 195 road tyres and carefully positioned brackets.

leeds/wakefield.

There is no optimum layaout so to speek as each would be depandant on wheel and tyre used,

for instance as i'm sure you understand a narrow tyre would benefit from some roll induced camber Ala standard setup, but a 10" wide wheel with matching stiff carcass slick will want almost none,

the frame i am working on for my next car will be a wide track , i will be pushing the hubs out 100mm between them , then offsetting the wheel back into the car,

That was my thought Carl. Longer top and bottom arms, then offset the wheel back in.

I have a feeling that someone already makes a 'wide track' front that is used by some grass trackers.

I seriously doubt it!

Don't forget longer drive shafts and steering rack

So Carl will u still use the Mini KPI as you're insetting the wheels more, or opting for a slightly steeper KPI.
I've opted to stay with the MINI KPI as the setup I'm going to run will still have a reasonable scrub radius.

Gav, on the hubs i have just made i have moved ther bott balljoint out as far as i can , you can't go too far out as you are restricted by the disk, the top BJ is in the standard palce, this is all based on metro hub geometry.

Carl surely if you're moving the bottom BJ over as far as pos it will give a geater KPI than the Metros 10.5 Deg (there is supposed to be two KPI angles used on the Metros but the only one stated is 10.5), and with insetting the wheels you'll have near 0 scrub radius, thus no sellf centreing of the wheels.

Another thought with reduced scrub won't you need the drive shafts to telescope more?

if you extend the upper and lower arms, yes. i had to shave shafts made anyway so didnt bother me. and carl can sort you out with sexy billet shafts no bother.
