Ive heard different things about different pertols, and just wondering how much of a difference they've made?

Some people ive spoken to recon Optimax is best and others say that it doen't make much difference what i use?

My cars pinking and instead of retarding the timing I thought i'd try a different fuel to see if it stops it.

Optimax on all our cars, all the time. Well worth it, the 16v golf we've got pinks like mad on regular unleaded. we've advanced the timing about as much as we can safely to get the best bang *wink* - so really we can't go any less than 98 ron.

I tend to put normal unleaded in my road car as it is modern and so the ECU changes the timing itself depending on the signals it gets from the knock sensors and the lambda. However every now and then I do give it a tank of Optimax or Super for a "treat" and it does go noticeably better, as it will tolerate more advance before the knock sensor starts to limit it.

Matty if your engine is pinking sort it sooner than later...

I use BP Ultimate or Optimax depending on which garage i pass on route to an event.

In the past i has use 117 otcane race fuel and ran that to 30(thirty) pounds of booost for short spurts on the rollers with no detonation.

i read somewhere on another forum that Tescos were trialing 99RON petrol, but it was only available in a handful of outlets across the country.

it mite be worth trying if u can find it!

i allways run my mini on 97 or 98 just to be safe. my Lupo GTi is designed to run on 98 so that always gets the good stuff aswell! i find it runs quite abit smoother on the higher octane stuff too and i think the better efficiency goes part way to cancelling out the higher cost.

Pinkin seems to be sorted.*happy*

Filled her up with optimax and only had to retard the timing by about 1 degree.

Shame i had to run the last mile to the local shell garage with a petrol can! LOL
