Hi,

i am having some problems with the mini.
It started to splutter and running on 2 cilinders.
When i got home i check with cilinders had a sparks and witch did not.
Number 1 and 4 don't give a spark and 2 and 3 do.

I am no wonder with electrics. But on the 3 pin connector to the coil a have power the center pin. And i get a reading on the other 2 on the outside (when turning the engine over) with give the coil the signal to give a spark.

So i think the coil is dead but how can i check this?
I am not sure how the check the coil and what the readings should be.

Can someone give me some info what and how to check en what the readings should be.

Thanx Paneermeel

to test the coil give it 12v on the middle pin and ground out the outer 2 one by one, only for a fraction of a second though

1 n 4 are on he same coil so i suspect either the coil of the wiring for 1/4 cyl

Swap coilpack leads 2&3 with 1&4. Take the plugs out and connect them all up but ground them to the rocker cover with tie wraps.

If 2 and 3 now don't spark when you crank the engine then your coilpack is dead on that side or your signal feed to that side of the coil is not getting through or there is interference.

You could try stabilising the centre 12v feed by fitting a 20 microfarad capacitor grounded to the body where you have bolted the coilpack. This is what Ford do. Worked on mine.

Good luck.

Richard.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

I think I have a Ford coilpack somewhere.
Want me to dig it up and send it to you?

Plugs are out for the reason above*happy*

I found a coil 20 min away from me.
Bought it and fitted it, eureka *Clapping* it's alive once again.
Since i have to replace the coil i am going to find a good location to mount it.
Were it was mounted it was in the way for a intercooler.

Thanx for the help
