spluttering and losing power

any ideas on this will be great,

coming home today from brighton and 4 times the engine started spluttering and dying on me.

1st time i topped up the dashpot oil and it seemed ok after that,,
the 2nd, 3rd and 4th times i just left it for a few minutes and it was ok, from what i can remember i was going uphill with low fuel so i filled up after the second time but still it happened???

it was quite happy to idle but wouldn't drive??

was similar to when the dizzy gets wet in heavy rain...

going to check it over tomorrow but any ideas of possible causes will be great!

when you have a broken down ign lead it does that, it will tick over ok, but when you load the engine it can't burn the fuel from the weak spark, just an idea mate.
