Australia oi oi oi!

HI lads..

been chatting to a guy local in australia, he said that the new 5 speed straight cut gearboxes are very good.. not that they are new.. but the newer cut mini spares ones. had there gears re designed?

he is using them with helical Drop gears & said that there is hardly any whine at all.

he said it is most noticed when in 5th on the highway..

I was really impressed as he said at about in 4th 3.4 ratio it does about 4,100 to 4,300 revs or so
& drops in 5th over drive with a ratio of 2.9 giving around 3,000 or 3,100 revs.

are the newer designed mini spares straight cuts that more silent then the old design?

im very interested as i think this is great to use with decent power.

he said the key is using the helical drop gears as that makes a hell of a racket if straight cut.

i guess the new gear sets even in a 4 speed would be good is anyone using them?

the design shows a distinct lack of imagination,

looks nice
want one *tongue*

so if it was a 3.2 diff would the fith gear ratio be 2.7?

which would be great for motorway cruising!

warrenty on torque... you having a laugh! normally you'll only find a guarentee to be free from defects at the point of sale wont you?

that said, a mate of mine has a helical MS box under his K head motor, it does make for a really nice drivable package.

Joe, minisport did a 5 speed helical and limited the warranty. To 80ftb of torque. .... stated not suitable. For Turbo application. ... lmao

I was just taking the piss ... but you missed the point. Buddy

Thats pretty tempting with a few highways raising their speed limits to 80 around here, but if its only rated to 80ftlbs tq it then maybe not so much

Me too :/

I like the idea of a 5 speed box, but unless someone makes one that's more affordable and suitable for 200+, nannas it'll stay an idea.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

I'm not talking about the helcoil box this
Is a straight cut box but using hel drop gears to dim the sound a bit.

So I'm sure it easy would take the torque, nothing about it being limited on the website at all.

Unlike the helical box that is limited to 93ft or what ever the original box was.

This with hel drops would be awesome
I think, not to loud and not much worry.

I wonder though with the 5th gear hanging out like that how it would deal on boost?

Seems the weakest link?

The Japanese did one a few years back that put forest way out yonder, why? It's the gear you user the least and takes less punishment.

Why no one has expanded and developed that style is odd.

Quite a common gearbox in sport BMW's like the M3 and M5, they've had them in road cars since the mid 80's they only need first (forest?) for pulling away from standing.

It's not the age that makes me creak it's the mileage
