I checked an engine last week cold on the garage floor it was 12/12/8/10 bar so removed head and found crack between valves on No 4(10 bar) so that explains that one.

No 3 was 8 bar so filled bores up with white spirit and No 3 was leaking.

Just pulled No 3 piston out and all looks ok still has lathe? lines between the rings etc but the oil ring was stuck in a bit....could this have caused it as I don't know when the engine was last run

As I understand it, the oil control ring is mainly there to keep the oil away from the combustion when the piston is on the "down" stroke. So as such it does not do a huge deal in keeping compression in?

But that is only my basic understanding, I am sure others will comment more and I may be wrong?
