Just wondering if anyone knows what boost pressures other cars that use a T3 run as standard?

Thinking along the lines of sourcing cheap uprated actuators for the T3 rather than paying high prices from suppliers for them?

So does anyone know what boost these run as standard?

1) Escort RS Turbo

2) Sierra Sapphire Cosworth

And also anyone know of any other common cars that use a T3? I know the Lotus Esprit Turbo does but these are not that common!!

Turbo diesels will be higher-rated ones Tom - but most of these seem to favour the smaller actuators (don't know why!)

Do any turbo diesels use a T3 though?! I know some of them use a T2 but these are the more 'laggy' older diesel turbo engines, so any with a T3 would be nothing-nothing-nothing-whoosh. The more modern common rail stuff seems to have gone towards smaller lower inrtia turbos (assumedly because the common rail produces more power than the old system so needs less total boost to create the performance?)

Near Lincoln

fairly sure that cosworths run a bar or so as standard, can't remember what my old escort rs turbo used to run but 0.7-0.8 bar rings a bell

this link gives a list of pretty much the TB03's

I was thinking older genertion stuff!

Don't forget the Saabs - they used a T3 for sure.

I had a chat with my Dad as he used to mess with Cosworths a few years ago, he seemed to think that they ran 10psi as standard, as he ran one in the Production Saloons class for a few years, and boost pressure was strictly monitored as everyone was trying to cheat.....as in any "limited modifications" racing series.......

Escorts and scozzies used an AMAL valve however - so the actuator isn't an indication of the boost it actually ran i suspect.

AMAL valve...tell me more...is this some way of controlling the pressure the actuator sees in order to control boost? I know the Cosworth engines have some sort of overboost protection but not sure how it works.

As an update to the actuator theme, I have just acquired a standard Sierra 4x4 actuator off eBay for £4. Can't be bad.....

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

tom escort turbo actuators are i think the same as the mg metro actuators part numbers are the same
i suspect that they are sprung the same 4.5 psi and the increased boost is made via the ecu as per metro setup

but i may stand corrected .......

fire a gauge on your 4x4 one tom and see whats what buddy

The specs off the Garrett sheets say thus:

Metro:
Pressure applied to move actuator rod end 0.38mm / 0.015" to be 3.65 - 4.15 PSIG

RST:
Pressure required to move actuator rod 1.27mm /0.050" is 3.9-4.2 PSIG

Part numbers are not much help, as the metro actuator was given as a part, the RST as an assembly.

Is it me, or is that suggesting the metro has a higher pre-load?
