It's my birthday next week and looking at getting a welding mask to tackle all my rust. Would like a reasonable quality one as ive not really welded before and don't want to knacker my eyes. Was thinking around the 100 quid mark.

spend £50 - £70 on an auto darkening one and get a hand held cheepo for access to the tight spots, they should see you through a shell resto. On 11th Feb, 2015 robert said:
i tried putting soap on it , and heating it to brown , then slathered my new lube on it

Hi! Can't comment on a specific one, but I'd get one that'S adjustable. I have a non-adjustable one which is often too dark or bright. Also the better ones are not as dark when they'r not darkened. I'd go to a place which has some choice (welding suppliers?) and have a look.

I would go middle of the road, I have used both a top of the range, and bottom of the range, the dearer one looked better, and once you stopped welding, it returned to normal straight away, whereas the cheapo one was a bit bulky, and took half a second or so going from dark>light after you stopped, the dearer one also needed turning on, which I forgot to do every single time, but both did their job just as well, hence I went for a nice middle of the road jobbie.
