right the engines all apart after the losing oil pressure thread the other day.

It all looks ok to me, but saying that i have no idea what acceptable wear is. the thrusts look a little worse for wear to me. crank is fine, still all smooth and shiney.

here's a couple of pics anyway. i'm off to battle with the rods again, any tips on getting them apart they're feckin stubborn things.

and the rest are here:

The bearing look fine, hardly any wear. The thrust do look like they are slightl worn, but this wont affect the oil pressure.

What does the oil pump look like?

hi bud ????*smiley*

usually it you can feel any tram lining, if you can run your finger nail across the crank journals and FEEL any tram lining

you need a re grind but up to press the mains look fine to me on the pic ???

if the crank checks out ok and you find nothing ? it would be wise to replace the bearings to freshen up the engine any way and replace the thrusts as well

to persued the caps to come off use a copper or ally dolly to help things using the correct angle of impact with the knocking stick.

strip the oil pump bud and see what you find there ??

go over the engine carefully

if you find nothing i suspect the problem lies in the turbo like we said!

but were did the debris come from thats the one you must find *wink*

keep us informed buddy*smiley*

the oil pump looks a lot worse for wear, took it apart and its all scored around it.

Cant feel any scoring on the crank mains journals, the only thing is a slight difference in colour where the groove in the shell is.

some more pics of the oil pump in here now http://photobucket.com/albums/v175/bud666/engine%20stripped/

Oil pump does not look all THAT bad, I have seen them when they have got a lot of shit in that you can't actually turn them by hand. Not good enough to use again though. As a test check the rotor clearances, the Haynes shows you how.

Get the big ends off and have a look at those, you said it was knocking so thats what my money is on, knocked out a big end. But then you need to find out why?

big ends look more worn than the mains, but going on whats been said about the mains then they arent tooo bad. still gonna be replacing em though while its all apart (again!)

i think we may have found whats was knocking when were stripping the engine. the crank pulley had come loose, the bolt was only finger tight and there was a fair bit of play in the pulley (it just sits over that key in the crank doesn't it?) so we reckon that could have been causing the knocking noise.

will go and get some pics of the big ends anyway. :)

Pop the thrusts back in and measure the end-float. Buy new-ones (oversize maybe) to get the axial clearance down to the minimum.
Oil pump is a minispares one which means it is best left on the workbench. get the Avonbar turbo pump instead.

Also whilst it is in bits take the opportunity to pull the oil gallery plugs and give the galleries a good clean out to make sure there is no other debris in them. Replacement bungs are cheap enough, or if you've access to a lathe you could make some yourself out of something soft like brass or ally.

Have you also checked that the oil pick up pipe in the sump is not clogged up this causing a restriction in flow and hence low oil pressure?

pics of the big ends are in there now.

Will check the oil pump rotor clearences later and measure the crank end float aswell, we did have a quick look at it and it didnt seem to move very much at all, but will check it properly to be sure. and i'll have a look at the pick up pipe too.

gonna be popping over to doodmeisters one of the nights anyway and he's gonna have a look at it all for me, and pop the pistons out to have a check of the rings. (i bust 2 rings last time so dont want to do it again :) )

Cheers for all the help dudes, much appreciated :)
