For those of you who have leaded heads, is there any preference to which additive to use? I was looking at the millers power plus as Miller's seem to be a decent brand? Adds upto 2 octane numbers too?

Any advice appreciated.

i never bothered in my 998 did 35k there was noticeable burn there when i whipped the head off
i dont think my turbo head has inserts either and dont bother with that
and i hear the lead is very bad for the wb02 sensors

Yes i moved to the darkside *happy*

Lambda sensors it will quickley kill them,

With exhausted insert unleaded. There no problem,

the wash of fuel on the inlets there's no reversion on the seats may be after 60+ k or so but I doubt. It.

I've always got into the habit of using it, octaine booster one, but then I haven't fitted my wideband yet. I may try the stuff benross recommends.

I would rather use one tbh, A new sensor is a lot cheaper than a new head lol, the tetraboost looks good, but it is bloody dear, there's enough to treat 640litres of fuel, don't think I will even get close to using that much lol

I don't think lead replacement additives contain lead, and will be ok with lambda sensors.

I wouldn't run without it if you don't have inserts. I bought a mini that was barely running on any cylinders after being run on unleaded for a couple of years.

All the exhaust valves and seats were destroyed and it had poor compression. Engine had only done 40k in it's whole life.

I use millers CVL in the hillclimber (but mainly for octane and it's MSA approved). Before I had inserts fitted I used Castrol Valvemaster. Best value additive, and works too.

The castrol does seem good value, about £11 for 250ml, that will do 250litres if fuel, whereas the Miller's at £8 only does 40litres to 250ml.

I can get Miller's local, that's its only plus side, but I will probably order a batch of castrol to last me

Im using Castrol Valvemaster with the same head as you Craig. I was told its important to use it from the off set with a new head, due to newly cut seats. You need to choose one brand and stick with it, as they all work slightly differently. I contacted Castrol, about wideband sensor, and was told it was safe to use. I have about 15 bottles, your more than welcome to a couple for free,if you cover postage. Or I could have a run out in the turbo (wheather permitting)

I've been using the Castrol Valvemaster with the octane booster for years. Last time I took the head off there was no evidence of valve recession.

I think the castrol valvemaster seems the way to go, great value and its available local if needs be.

Matt I will have a couple for sure, would probably be better covering postage, weather is a bit hit and miss at the mo, it would cost a fair bit to drive to Donny lol, but your choice. I'm free all weekend and evenings/next weekend. Let me know.

Another vote for the Castrol here.
