I'm led to believe that smoking from the breathers is a piston ring issue, I've done a compression test and this reveals that cylinder 2 is the problem..I then put oil down the bore and I got a higher compression result.
Are total seal rings the only ones available for std turbo pistons?
Will I need to hone the bores and is this possible to do myself? I've seen tools available on eBay.

Consider new pistons. A well used standard block will be worn beyond just a re ring. Take the head off an inspect it before you spend £100 on rings you wont be able to use

Is it A-Series only? I think it should be...
So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

I would go for new pistons and a rebore, job done then, plus 20 omegas with 10cc dish

Those old rings and bores will be well worn like sprocket says, from some 25 odd years of use

The breather smoke and pressure is your give away

Looks like I need to pull the engine out and strip it down.

Took the engine back out today, stripped it down, found a damaged piston!
