I have found my third gear

I found my third gear lying in the sump it seems a bit past its best.
here is a picture of what is left.

Don't forget to strip down the oil pump, clean the pickup and check your mains...

It went with a big bang I was overtaking someone who was anoying me he was going so slow I felt like a dick when I slowed half way past.
Where is the best place to buy A+ gear box parts I want to replace near every thing half it was new 7000 miles ago but there is damage on most gears now.(the gear that broke wasnt replaced)

that what you get with heical gears and a decent turbo engine im afraid.

but its still sole destroying to have to rip a perfectly decnt engine to bits to repair a gear box.

Is the 998 gearbox the same then? i mean size?

coz i wanna spare gearbox so i can put sc gears in etc etc but i cant afford 2 do it in 1 go. so can i keep my 998 box and re build it?

Both yourself and jukka use 'pre A+' gearsets? It is erring towards these being superior than the A+ for sure!

I used an A+ helical box for a while, gave it lots of abuse, I only changed to SC for the ratio's like vegard

My gearset was indeed of the A variety. It was however a CR helical set, which I don't think you can find in A+ form.

A+ are not stronger, only cheaper :)

I have the remains of two stripped a+ boxes, I will be home next weekend - i could send you what you need for free, just give me postage costs!

I hope to have a gear box in by next weekend but I will keep in touch if I need any parts thanks.

yes they will last , but all depends on who puts them together and how you drive the car, if you tend to do plenty on quick starts ect, then they wont last over long.

a decent turbo lump with say 130 ft lb of torque at 3500 rpm at full throttle would make short work of stripping the bearings weres loads of quick starts will eventialy strip at least the input gear of the box. especialy if the cars doest spin the wheels this is the inportant point as once the wheels is spinning the the stress is relived out of the box but if you are running 13's or are on slicks then and no spin something will break and is usaly the input gear on a helical box, seen it loads on times, thats why you tell me how many standard turbo boxes are worth using when you pick one up they are usaly well trashed.

I was using pre a+ close ratio gears, these are installed in an a+ gearbox to have the larger primary bearings and turbo nose bearing, my next mod will be to buy a new input gear from msc which have the larger input bearing to go from my preA+main shaft to A+ one .
I 'm also joining about slicks tyres, we were using yokohama tyres (on 10 wheels) for the race days,the mini was giving a very secure feeling, the last race meeting we changed for 13 wheels and tb15 michelin slicks tyres........ we lost two gears in the sump case, no more teeth on the secound and first gears, before this gearbox took two years of abuse. Also the mini feeling was bad ( we have made so much 720°, it was not possible to keep it at the limit)
