Hi Folks
looking for some advice
Has anyone had experiance of converting a mg metro to a mg metro turbo in a mg metro i would like to do the t2 conversion using a turbo manifold can anyone foresee any clearance problems at bulkhead as spacer plate would need to be used .

Does anyone know what compresion ratio i can get down to by only modifying the head as it is a 30000 mile standard non turbo unit i have so dont want to mess with it to much .

Is it posable to modify the standard distributor or is there much of an advantage going with mega jolt if i am only looking for 120bhp max

hoping to achieve a nice powerful easy to live with road car so think this is powerfull enough .

I have a spare wolbro 255 fuel pump in my garage would this be ok to use .

could anyone tell me if the mg metro clutch is same as turbo clutch if not would standard turbo clutch suit my proposed power

Thanks for reading look forward to hearing from all
Mark

Unsure about clearence, with just modifying the head, you can get down to about 8.1:1 on dished 12cc standard turbo pistons, so plenty low enough, however for 120bhp I would suggest 8.5:1 and 10-12psi, you are now on the limit of the standard turbo clutch and std diff, I would reccomend fitting a 4pin diff from minispares.... However what you have is an na engine, I would reccomend changing pistons to something more suitable, such as cast omega 10cc

From my experience with megajolt, I would fit it to any car, starts perfectly, runs a lot better, no bother with distributors getting wet etc.

Thanks very much Benn how far do you recon i could get down to with standard pistons as i want to try out the turbo set up with my turbo head and if i dont like the drivability might revert back to na which would just be a Head swap again .I would run the standard pistons and if i wanted to turn it up then i would prob go the 1380 route with the omega bigger pistons as you say .Just dont want to go to far until i know i like the turbo drive .

Sorry Bennross i did have a good look and still could not find info for metro engine clearance i was only hoping there may be someone on here that had a metro at some point or had gone down the same root as i want to do like testing what the turbo drive feels like with standard pistons ect first, but could only find info for turbo engines but i will keep looking .

If you want the really fast way you will need to do the following.

Get a 0.140" Cometic head gasket change your exhaust valves for some minispares ss race valves and get a metro turbo dizzy. Oh you will also need head chambers in the region of 28cc if your going too use the MG Metro pistons. The head mods and gasket should get your compression down.

Forgot to mention you will need to get the block decked and head surface ground if your useing a Cometic gasket.

Are all the metro shells not the same? If so I'd have thought the clearance would be fine

Thanks Lads was just wondering as once the conversion plate is added to the standard torbo manifold was not sure how much it would project but being a t2 i prosume it will be a lot smaller than the metro t3 .Thanks again

One thing I have noted since going turbo is you cannot get away with a worn engine in the same way that you can with out the turbo, if you know what I mean, to finish off I have made the mistake in thinking I could get away with using a part worn engine and now hoping to make it to the end of year and then take out the engine and do what I should have done in the first place..
