Hi guys,

Having made a few for some ex British rally cup cars, I've made a silencer which is standard sort of mini size. All my silencers have been mild steel, with stainless perforated tubes inside (usually the bit that rots first). Don't seem to find much stainless on rally cars, I think due to the fact that stainless steel is heavier, louder in exhausts, fatigues easier than steel, and the exhaust will usually get destroyed on rough terrain before it gets rotten!

Anyway- this is my first mini one, not quite finished yet and price not set yet, would anyone be interested? If so I'll sit down and calculate pricing.

Standard features- removable end with 12 nylock nuts and captive M5 threads, 2mm thick end caps, 1.75" bore, stainless perforated inner tube, supplied with a quantity of E-glass fibre material for packing it with, the amount used will alter the sound level, will not be ready to bolt on- fixings will be different for most people as it is a custom item.

Nylock nuts? interesting I have a couple of them on a supertrapp disc to make the car noise levels better on long runs, and man they melt.....

And Tm in general will only be intrested in performance, so weight etc, most people seem to run. 2" system

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

It is a function over form item, hence why you never see them on road cars, just rally normally. It's 33% open perforated tube inside so should flow very well, although to be honest I can't see how there would be much difference with any decent straight through silencers, I'd say that being able to pack them yourself is a big bonus as you can chop and change the material which will have an effect on volume and flow, and we use bigger versions on 325bhp mk1 escorts doing 8000+ rpm on long distance rallies, so I don't think you'll have to worry about the nuts falling off. I'm planning on sending this one out to someone to test, as my own build is taking too long...

Also compared to my Maniflow back box this is light as a feather!

2" with alloy outer, steel ends and stainless internal would be the baby.

Function over form maybe, but the main function we want is zero weight. Life span or ruggedness is not something we generally care about.

I have a repackable motor bike can, £25 off ebay, carbon outer and weighs less than 1 kg.

in response to stevieturbo

theres quite a few materials available most contain a material within that is glass fibre

To prevent getting everything blown to shit and out the exhaust rapping wirewool round the centre pipe will prolong it getting blown to pieces :)
