Hi - I have a 1994 Mini Sprite. Previous owners have made a right mess with dodgy patchups and oversills. The area concerned runs along the edge from the front to the rear where the oversills were. I have just bought a hertiage floor pan which includes inner sills, outer sills, lower rear quarter panels which include the door step, fitch panel repair panel, and heritage heelboard repair panels for both sides.

I do not prefer doing patchup work, so decided to change the complete floor incl. tunnel. The only thing is I am not sure on the best way to do this. I was planning on bracing the both doors and then putting a brace across joining the door braces. However, I think the lower part of the shell could still sag - so was thinking of putting an additional brace from the front bulkhead, just below where the heater would sit, to the heelboard area under the rear seat pan. Would that be enough?

I plan on putting the floor in first before changing the heelboards and part of the fitch panel etc.

Also - can this be done with the rear bins still left in place? They are fine with no corrosion. But I am unsure how I would remove the inner sill that is just below the rear bins.

Has anyone ever attempted this before? Any pics would be great. I have only seen people change a half floor each time and weld the two up once they are in. Thanks.

Have a look at Matty's build thread for his MK 1

Hi cheers - i am guessing it is this one:

looks like i better attack this very slowly. The heritage floor pan i have does not include the rear heelboard as in matty's build thread just the inner sills. this is going to be a challenge.

I'd also take lots of measurements for reference.

yea was going to take a shed load of measurements. but i still can't figure out what to do with the rear bins.

in mattys mk1 there was no rear bins when the floor was put in (but then again I am not sure if mk1s had rear bins - maybe someone can clarify) and when people have put in front to rear floor pans halves, the bins have stayed in place. if they stay in place how do you get to the inner sill that is spot welded to the closing panel in the bin?

This is pretty much the only panel I didn't change on my car. Wish I had...

Might be worth unpicking the spot welds and taking the bins out to give you the access

My advice would be to weld a new heel board onto the floor pan then fit the whole assembly as one.

If you make some jigs up, like I did in my build, you can then locate the heelboard back in the original place, and use the front subframe mount holes to line the front section up.

I think you would be best to remove the bins, otherwise you'll struggle to get inner sill behind the bins on the B posts. If you are going to replace the heel board you can just make 2 vertical cuts either side of where the bin is spot welded to the old heel board, drill out the 3 - 4 spot welds that hold the bin to the wheel arch, then dril the 4-5 spot welds along the front of the bins on the B posts. As you're replacing the floor, simply cut around the base of the bins then tidy up the bin mating faces when they are out of the car ready to go back in.

Hopefully that makes sense?
