Hit a bit of a wall with the project, need to remove the bearings from the output shafts, so I can stick them in the new diff.

Can anyone recomend any suitable bearing puller? I tried improvising with my flywheel puller but that didn't work.

Thanks,

Mike

Are you talking about the diff roller bearings?

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

You'll be luck to get used ones of in one piece.

I usually use a small balsa chisel to get the moving, then pry of with a pair of crowbars.

This is the type of bearing puller you need. I'm sure that cheaper ones are available.

Thanks, I'll have a look on eBay

Managed to get enough of it off using a flywheel puller with head nuts on the end of the bolts to get at the crownwheel bolts. I still have the inner part of the bearing attached to the crown wheel, will try and get it off tomorrow

I have a cheapo 3 leg puller that'll do it if needed.

I never use a puller on that one bearing. A pair of tyre levers works every time. Rest the cranked end of each lever on opposing chrownwheel bolt heads and under the inner bearing race (there's just enough overhang) then apply equal force to the two levers, and off it pops. It helps if you have the diff in a large bench vice so it doesn't skite across the garage.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

I seem to always end up with crown wheels that have the inner race of the bearing welded to them...

Putting a U-shaped exhaust clamp round the groove of the bearing gives you something substantial to pull on using a normal 3-legged puller.

Metric is for people who can't do fractions.

That's a good idea actually, I think the bearing puller I have might manage if I use a U clamp as well.
