I fitted an MPI rad to my car last year and it ran too hot for my liking 80-85 degrees, So put the ever faithful minispares 2 core one back on and it stays nice and cool never more then 74 degrees. I run a 74 degree stat so obviously the cooling system is worked a bit harder, especially when it is a hot day.

Mpi rad only just worked on mpi's which is why you can get supercool versions as a solution to the issue. They have an updated core design similar to that of the mini spares side mount |

My mpi rad couldnt cope with the standard mpi, as soon as you pulled up at a set of lights the fan was on

I measured the capacity of metro and mpi earlier and they actually both measured out at the same - about 550ml.

I ran a standard mpi rad on my supercharged 1293 engine. It coped perfectly well which was a suprise really as the charge temperatures were high as well!

85 isn't really hot though really In what context? In the context that unleaded fuel burns better with engine temperatures above 90c. Running engines at 70 or 75 degrees these days is an outdated throwback from leaded four star back in the 70s and 80s. Edited by Sprocket on 26th Jun, 2012. On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:

My mpi rad couldnt cope with the standard mpi, as soon as you pulled up at a set of lights the fan was on rick Errr, that's because that's how it works ! An MPi rad doesn't have a mechanical fan constantly blowing air through it like a side-mount does, so the moment the airflow through the rad drops (pulling up to a set of lights perhaps) the fan comes on to compensate. It's exactly the same as a Metro, or and other modern car. The fan on my MG-260 comes on almost before I have come to rest, and the rad on that is enormous. Metric is for people who can't do fractions. |

I have never had a car where the electric fan comes on as soon as you stop moving, and that includes the metro. |

I have a front mounted Metro rad (with interleaved fins), restrictors on both bypass and turbo cooling and the 88C thermostat all year long (from -10C up to 35C and on track). Temperature stays at 78-80C. The car was built 2 years ago I think. std 998 A+, g295, MD266, RHF4, 109hp @0.8bar/5400rpm |
