i am considering placing coilover springs on my turbomini project.

can anyone give me some advice on what to buy and how to install them

do you need to replace the rear subframe as well with a rear beamaxle or can you stick to the old one?

You can use the old one, think of it as just replaceing the shock absorber. Just get rid of the cone and rubber doughnut.

However this makes the rear of the subframe redundent due to the way the forces are distributed. Essentially excess weight.

In terms of coilovers pro-tech (sp?) seem to do the job for many at the moment.

My protech ones are lights look good and dont cost the earth to buy, i have only trial fitted them to the mini but were easy to use and install. A friend of mine replaced his spax ones for the protech ones and loves them, i know of a few people that have also rated there customer service as amazing

Go for Protech but dont buy through Huddersfield - go direct.

Theyre lightweight and rebuildable so dont need replacing if anything goes wrong

I seriously doubt it!

I think you forgot the most important part. Dampers aren't there to look good or be cheap, they're there to dampen the spring.

I'd prefer something that worked....

I have gaz ones they seem reasonable. I got the second hand if i were to buy again i would just go for the protech's.

Be a little careful on the front as depending how low you want to be can cause lots of issues. The top arm bracket will hit the subframe.

The thing that put me off protech is that to my knowledge they are still just oil filled which means with a lot of abuse they can overheat and turn useless. Hence why any serious competition cars use gas dampers, (not gaz), but on a road car or drag racer probably no problem.

They do look nice, but I'm going for gas filled on mine.

Good point Topcat but just to reassure - I gave my Protech death on the roads and theyve always been great. One did leak oil recently but Protech very quickly and cheaply sorted it out

I seriously doubt it!
