I have been running my new build engine in for a while now and have been having some issues with the turbo. First of all after a few trips out the turbo started making a high pitched squeeling noise like a boost air leak or similar.I checked everything and all was fine with connections etc, slowly the noise has become more regular and today i turned the boost up a little for the first time and the turbo seemed realy weird, some times it would boost and some not. when I got home and sat on idle it smoked badly and stunk realy oily. I have taken the intercooler pipe off the turbo and there is LOADS of metal filings in the pipe with a tiny bit of oil. Does this mean my turbo is royley fucked???.

Sounds fucked to me. If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |

You can buy the cores for £300 odd off of ebay for a t2 or a t3, then you can take the housings off and just swap out the core :)

right all apart and turbo off and bingo found the problem. small nut on the end of the impellar had come off and was wearing away at the impellar. thats as far as i have got but i guess the bearing has gone too as there is a small amount of oil and the shaft has a lot of play end to end. Hopefully AVR classics is open tomorrow and ill pay them a visit. Its about £500 for there top spec t3 hopefully they might give me a little off as i have two t3's to exchange. |

Try Universal Turbos near Salisbury.
Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.
