Hi guys,
Just in early stages of planning next project. Now my 1st car was a mini and have really got the bug to build my perfect mini. The car would be 99% track car but remaining road legal.

Now my question is, if I buy a miglia spec cage from someone like custom cages, what are the rules of who can weld it in on the basis that I would like to do the odd hill climb and sprint etc.

My brother inlaw is an excellent welder having spent 9 years at a fabrication company but no longer works there so doesn't have up to date tickets. It's a lot of money to spend if its not complient but custom cages want £1000 to fit which could be spent elswhere!

Many thanks

Ben.

Hi Ben,
Another fellow Hereford member.
I am building mine with hill climb and track days in mind. Best bet is to get a copy of the MSA blue book. This has all the official regulations and required specifications needed for hill climbs, rallying ect and is very useful.
With regards to roll cages, I bought a safety devices full bolt in cage and welded in some 3mm thick spreader plates at the base of the feet to meet the requirements. Custom cages do make nice cages if you have the money, but SD are fairly affordable and you will find plenty up for sale. Just make sure it has an FIA stamp sticker on the if you plan on going this route

I welded mine myself after having passed a test where customcages send you a sample that have to be done to a good std

There is no specific qualification it just has to be to a good standard, this is how the MSA define it.

Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

Thanks guys. Not quite sure which way to go yet. Have seen some big smashes in recent years so really want a comprehensive roll cage. Maybe a more basic cage and build on that.
