hi everyone

i have recently aquired a nice new head from turbo phil with all the bells and wistles. my question is do i still need to use the locator rings for the inlet manifold?i would think not because the head has been ported and the little "lip" that only let the locator ring go to a certain point is gone. but then how do i know the inlet manifold is lines up correctly with he ports?

advice please

cheers

Use the bolt holes, don't worry about it too much, the head port should be bigger than the inlet so it gives a tiny bit of leeway.

ring problems are down to wear or abuse but although annoying it isn't a show stopper

you have no choice now the head has been opened up.

You can dowell the head and inlet to ensure everything lines up. I think that this is worthwhile with the metro inlet as is cannot be located on the mounting holes; mainly as it doesn't have them.

The best thing to do drill the manifold & head & use a little dowel/peg to locate it as Wil said. :)

I like to retain the rings on turbo engines as there is little point in opening the ports out there then.

Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem.
