Hey, I have just bought said turbo and am planning my engine set up.

so how well does the gt17 handle not running a dumpvalve? i know the t3 has a strong shaft and can take it.

peoples thoughts on it too please would be grand.

thanking you all.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

No problems. In that department, but if you are to run high boost a dump valve would be on the top list of priorities

I,m running a GT17 at 15/16psi and even with a dump valve it squeaks and chatters at full bore changes - I guess the dump valve is not big enough.

I didn,t bother about compressor stall until I read how much damage it might cause - I do now

Much safer to run with a DV than without IMO.

Even with a 360 degree bearing, it still puts plenty of stress on it.

Why were you considering not running one? For the price it costs surely it's not worth the risk of destroying your turbo?

If you want to cut down on the noise re-circulate into the intake.

I did over 30000 miles with no dump valve and a gt17 without any problems.

I run a recirculating one with my t3. You cant really hear it unless you boot it, and then it is quite quiet

thanks for all the replies!

quite a mixed opinion!

it was purely because i prefer the noise.

but think I'll run one to be safe

cheers
