If you only have the calipers, then there's a size difference, and they do look a bit different if you have a look on google.
With discs, 8.4 drive flanges are bolted on with 6 point bolts, and 7.5s are bolted on with countersunk machine screws.

Simple, 7.9" brakes will have alloy 4 pot calipers

7.9" discs are non standard, they are 8.4" discs machined down, so the drive flange will be the 8.4" type. whether the discs are 7.5", 7.9" or 8.4" only needs the use of a tape measure.

7.5" discs use a different drive flange from the 8.4" disc, and a search on Minispares would easilly show you what they look like

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

I've personally found pads make more difference than the small jump between disc size. From 8.4s with blackstuff pads to 7.5s and m1144 pads there was a huge braking improvement.

My 7.9's don't have alloy calipers... Steel 1 pots :)

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.
