I currently have a breather from the flywheel side, one from the timing cover, both go to the rocker cover, then another pipe to a catch can(ish), but how important is it to have all 3? Could I get rid of the one on the timing cover? I am having trouble with it leaking, weld in a breather and it warps the cover thus leaking oil, or take ages welding in a breather, and the weld not being oil tight? Pissing me off to say the least.

Why can't you use a standard cover with breather?

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

seal it with a bit of sealer?

I've never really understood the logic of feeding all the breather into the rocker and then having one pipe from that to a tank. Makes the two feeding in to the rocker pointless. Better to feed them all seperately to a tank, or at least join them up closer to the tank.

maybe the breathers feeding the rocker cover are causing your smoke problem. presurising the rocker box and forcing oil down your valve guides

I think standard with a breather is the way to go.

Will, I could give the sealant a go, but I'm fed up of building it all back up, to find it leaks, I want to build it up knowing its tight,

I piped them upto the rocker, for room issues mainly, to send them all separate, would look messy

Andy, its possible yes, but why now after 100miles?

EDIT: the pipe to the catch can is only 19mm, which wouldn't help with the above theory?

Not sure what to do about the timing cover, whether to get one with a breather, and just weld a bigger spout on or get one without breather and weld some pipe to it, not sure if I have enough pipe to make one

I am 99% sure I have got a spare timing cover in decent nick. £10. What are you welding them with to warp them, a stick welder?
I have done them before with the TIG with no problem.

Tom if you have, I'm at Andy's tonight if your free? Whatever time suits you.

I am using a mig, the first time, I just welded it as normal, and warped pretty bad, the 2nd I took my time and still warped a little, but the gasket and sealent took it up no Probs

A lot of racers run every thing to the rocker cover so it acts like an extra oil seperator, as the drops can chuck up a lot of oil.

Alan, did your cover not warp at all? Can't believe you welded something so thin with a stick.

No did not warp, for doing the job with stick you have to use 1.6mm rods, takes a bit of practice, yes i have used stick to do all my welding, I haven't got a mig..

What you can't see from pictures is i cut the old barrel filter off leaving the flange still in tact, so there was no direct welding to the cover, a picture to show what i mean..

Nice effort, but no where near as good as the one we've experienced at work recently:)

and to give you a perspective on size, here is a GT1752 compressor wheel next to a similar wheel from the above machine *happy*
