Captive nuts on engine mounts are a shit idea. You just end up with wrecked threads. Pop them out and just use with the normal nut and bolt. Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

the design shows a distinct lack of imagination, talk about starting off with a clean sheet of paper, then not bothering to fucking draw on it,lol On 20th Apr, 2012 Paul S said:

I agree, they sound a good idea but just don't work, but the Normal nut and bolt mounts are much better Edited by bennyy on 21st Jul, 2012. Audi s4 b5 - 470bhp & 486ft lbs

Agreed with Wil. The threads get wrecked trying to line them up the traditional way and you need to get them bang on to get the bolt to take.

well there in now, the only ones that ruined the thread where the ones that we tried putting the standard unf bolts in.

My old engine had unf captive nuts. Never had a problem with them. Nut and bolt types take the piss with all sorts of jiggery pokery to get bolted up. On 26th Jan, 2012 Tom Fenton said:

I think the warning should just be about Minisport stuff in general.

Use genuine Rover mounts and the bolts go in without any of that jiggery pokery. The fact that the non genuine mounts are a different thickness profile means you'll be jumping on the rocker cover in an effort to get them to work. On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:

I find if you don't line them up right weather they are captive or not, you make a mess of the threads, personally I like the captive type, don't like messing with two spanners.. Main Build

I've never struggled to get stuff in place, it's just an arse getting to the mount side to get nuts on/bolts in.

I used captive nut type mounts a couple of years back with no issues what so ever. They fitted like a dream. |
