just starting my second build from scratch and was wondering if this spec was ok basically i have the same head as sauber 36inlet 31 exhaust with 30cc chambers, i'm gonna use a grp a head gasket and 18cc pistons, question is will the cr be too low? had a chat with sauber and he was runnin the same spec but changed to 15cc pistons as it was smoother, i was also looking at getting my original turbo rebuilt to reduce the lag a little what do ya reckon before i spend too much!

i wudnt bother with a GP A gasket personaly.. the BK450 seems to hold up fine from what iv read* and its a bit if a wad to stomach for every time you wana whip the head off. apart from making a perfectly servicable block un-servicable for anything other than a group A gasket.

*no experience with the BK450 on a boosted A myself, but been lurkign long enough.

turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)

i use a DK451 head gasket set and its been fine for me. fair enough mines only seen 10psi constantly, but on the first engine i daresay it saw about 20psi before it melted a couple of pistons.

i'd personally say the best way to go about it then is to use the 18cc pistons, then you can have as much or as little taken out of the head to get the CR that you want.

d'oh just realised you've already got the head with 30cc chambers. ignore all that above then :)

Regarding the compression ratio, what sort of boost are you planning on running?? Your compression ratio will be about 7.3-1 with that spec which is good for 20+psi intercooled!!

At around £8 the bk450 head gasket is a superb gasket, many of the guys on here use it with no problems. Let us know what sort of power/boost you are aiming for to see if certain mods are justified:)

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

Your more than welcome *smiley* aslong as you pay the deposit im happy, i can then collect and pay from simon anyway if you cant for a while. Its my problem really, dont want to string simon out too much.
Best get on the phone to mark.

Ps, this engine has only done a RR day, it ran 180bhp on 18psi i think it was. was set up at baldwins. The original bill was circa 4.5k.
