I have a 5 speed gearbox from mini spares, just wondered if there is a maximum BHP these can handle?

The previous owners of the car it was in busted the 1st motion shaft bearing which in turn stripped a few teeth of the shaft its self.

I was wondering if the 1380cc engine it was attached to had too much power for the gear box.

Any help would be good as im going to start a twin cam head conversion and use this gearbox now ive fixed it up and dont want to break it again with too much power.

The box is limited to a certain. Ft pound of torque
In helical form, with helica drop gears, ask Richard at minispares north whats the score?

If you run SC drops in the helical box it would survive,....

yeah, its the main gearset that tends to shit themselves on these, i think you'd be ok with about 120 hp, but make sure you dont give it stick in 5th
