coming back of the road from MITP last night, I noticed the front tyres on the audi are just off the wear bars and not quite so sure footed. I'm off to France in it later this week and know there isn't enough life in them for another 2-3k miles.

I'm a bit of a brand snob and like to keep all the tyres the same - currently Michelin Pilot Sport 3s, however they are coming in at £195 a corner; the guy at the tyre place i've used for a while has suggested a Champiro GT at £110 - got the usual pitch from him regarding how wonderful they are and made in the same factory blah blah.

so the question is, has anyone run these and are they any good? other than that, any current recommendations for suppliers generally? need to get it all sorted by close on Wednesday

Cheers

Rob

My rear tyres last for about 40k miles normally.

Rob,
I had champiro tires all round on my V70 II, they were new when I bought the car, so why take them off.
I thought they are pretty ok, only in the wet quite easy to understeer.
Now my front tires had to be replaced and I have fitted Michelins (no particular reason, I have always had these and thought they were realy good).

The first shower I drove through on bad asphalt has convinced me that the only resemblance the champiros on the back have with real tires is that they are black and round...
Having 1600kg heavily oversteering in a corner was quite interesting I tell you... *surprised*

For the sake of a few quid I am going to fit Michelins on the back and prevent a car being totalled..

Just my experience,
Han

Edit: Mine are not "Champiro GT" tires I think but I will check and report back..

Andy, the quattro will eat through tyres on mine; having said that, I've probably got another 5k or so left on the backs - that would be around 25k from driven wheel; fronts have done around 20k

Han - appreciate the info - will be interested to know what you have fitted

cheers
rob

I use Michelins on my Audi, I rate them pretty well and will buy them again. Costco do them fully fitted for not a bad price.

I got my last ones from costco Tom on one of the 20% off deals for all 4, however they are currently quoting me £225 a corner

They are GTs after all: Champiro 328 GT, R17 45 225.
Still 5mm thread on it...

Yours for shipping cost..... *wink*

New tires are Michelin Primacy HP, R17 45 225
I payed just over 300 Euros fitted for the two.

Never used them but they have good prices: http://www.mytyres.co.uk/ is ex fitting though

btw I had a similar experience in my mini.. Toyo in front Camac ( made of black marble i think) in the rear.. first corner was like a Dodge Charger covered in lard..

Ive had tyres from them for last ten years and allways had great service. If u order today they will turn up tomorrow.

Rick

ps carnt help with the cheap brand but like you i allways like a good quality tyre especialy if your doing france runs. Ive never tried the verdistines but like you say there only a few quid cheaper so pay the extra.
In my eyes the cheap tyres are half as much so half as good.

Just be careful with my tyres rob especially if you going on holiday, as once I ordered four tyres from them and 2 turned up 3 days after ordering and the other 2 up two days after that, so time maybe an issue for you

I use Bridgestone RE050s. They were origibal fit on my Subary and stuck with them. I then fitted a full set to Wifeys 500 Abarth.

A great tyre, with good grip and wear levels.

Not sure how cheap they'll be though.

I work for Michelin and they are a great tyre, never heard of champiro tyres, pretty sure they are nothing to do with Michelin.

God, I'm not complaining about the price of tyres for the mini or fender again looking at this thread.

How are they so dear, load and speed rating?

I don't think 245's are a common size; the last car had 225s in the same profile and they were a good £50-60 cheaper a corner for the same speed and load rating.
