So, after a great weekend down at Santa Pod Im contemplating another build. The problem is I have no idea what to use and include engine spec wise.....If I go ahead I will probably go down the route of a-series with a straight cut box (I know theyre noisey but I love the whine!). Im new to engine modifications with my current mini only having a few standard off the shelf parts fitted, so Id have no idea where to start in terms of engine spec wise....You probably get loads of people like me on here everyday asking for help - iv used the search box before anybody asks, but not found any threads on fitting a garrett t4 - only t2s and t3s?

Thanks!

Physically fitting at turbo is the same whatever turbo you use. You either modify the Metro manifold (and then you'll need to install a bulkhead box). Or you makke (get made) a bespoke manifold.

Whether a T4 is a suitable turbo is another question.

A T4 is mahooosive and might just start to produce boost as a con rod lets go...

Id like to think that Id fit a bulkhead box - and I know a T4 is huuge which is why I thought it might be something different - but I guess you dont see many (any?) minis with a t4 for that reason.....

A mini with a t4 is just not going to happen, forget it, you don't get boost on a t3 until about 4k rpm.

Im happy two of the people commenting on here are fellow yorkshire folk!! Well, thats answered one of my questions then, I wont be going with a t4.....what about the engine components though? This is where I fall down as I have no idea what would be suitable!

You need to decide what money you want to invest, which will also decide how much power you want

Well I suppose thats as long as a piece of string really.....I cant afford to buy it all at once and fit it in a month as iv just left uni, but Id say that it would be a 3 year project...and it would be a case of buying the parts as and when I have the free cash

Paul S posted a guide on what to use to achieve certain power levels etc

I would start by having a read through the beginners tech section and look at what other people have done in their builds.

Before you start anything i would take a look over Turbophils Website

turbo-mini.com

It will defiantly point you in the right direction.

Il have a look on here then :) what made you go for a supercharger as a supposed to a turbo charger? I guess twincharging a mini is not really recommendable?

I started with the gay charger before I started on here.

I've had a turbo charged, stupidly fast metro van and yes it was extremely fast (for an upside down skip), but it just wasn't driveable as a road car. The gay charger should make for a fairly fast, but very driveable road car.

Twin charging has been done.

But you can get more boost than most sensible people need from a single turbo,

Ahh! Well to give an idea of what Im hoping for - a car that is driveable on the road but primarily designed for sprints/dragging/hill climbs - basically just a stripped out speed machine.....And il probably stick to a single turbo as a supposed to twin charging - probably keep the costs down!?

If you want to use it for speed events you need to look at the regs. Right now you would not sensibly be able to run a 1275cc turbo, only a 1000cc.

Next year you 'might' be able to run a 1275 turbo in the modified series production class. But obviously you'll need to comply with the safety regs etc.

Personally, I'd be looking at a Gt17 or similar. The GT17 is a well proven turbo with good driveability and high boost available.

Building it slowly is the way I did mine, for a top of the range 5port your looking at a few grand minimum,

In my opinion, a basic run down starting from the top, decent head, turbo Phil or benross on here, med did mine, block bored, New pistons, cast omegas are a popular choice, arp rod bolts for piece of mind, lightened flywheel, rts clutch (do a search), rotating assemble balanced, phase 2 cam, duplex timing gears and chain, straight cut gearbox, straight cut drop gears, 4 pin diff. Then bits like New water pump, oil pump, followers, bearings etc etc.
megajolt minimum
Turbo wise, gt1752 or gt2056,.

This is not for definate yet. But it is coming for Mod prod only, not road going.
