Glad to see that £18 billion we send them is being used on something productive - NOT!

That'll never happen. It would instantly kill 1000s of business and put 1000s of cars in the scrap yard.

Seems odd this is is ongoing just as we have removed the need for MOTs on older cars.

aren't they considered "historic" though so im sure that they dont fit this legislation. its ok if this passes law im just going to buy myself a john dear tractor and modify that.

but i agree with the above; it would kill so many cars & businesses. i personally dont see what harm modifying a car does after all its why we have the MOT no?

I have little doubt that this will happen - eventually.

The TUV regulations in Germany are broadly in line with this "proposal" and have been in force for many years. Under those regulations you cannot even change a tyre or a bulb unless it was approved as OEM.

The EC is all about trying to get everyone down to the same level and it will take longer than my lifetime to achieve - just see how much longer the Euro is going to last !

Not one link on that site is to an official UK governement document. The tiny URL links, my computer had a cardiac arrest with.

Nothing worth bothering with, and why have we not heard more about it before now?

And do you think they really care ?

Lets face it, when these dickheads dreaming up these rules are doing it. The only thing on their mind is keeping themselves in a job...a job dreaming up ridiculous rules to make their job look important.

They serve no other purpose, and couldnt care less on how those rules impact on others lives.

Because as with all motoring legislation, they try and sneak it through the back door. No opposition ? Wow, it must be a fantastic idea then, if nobody is opposing it, it must be wonderful !

They dont quite grasp the concept that no opposition means that they tried to hide it as best as possible so there couldnt be any opposition.

I don't think this spells the end of home modified/performance cars, as people have rightly said, it would kill a massive industry in the UK which has had a rapidly growing popularity in recent years.

However, I do think that they will try to impose the new IVA test as a resultant measure of this legislation, which I believe may well be the underlying plan anyway. From what I have seen, these measures are to prevent unsafe death trap vehicles from getting on to the road, which they can quite easily these days, lets face it. But at the same time, it makes it a much harder game for those who are sensible about modifying cars, and realises the difference between safe and unsafe modifications.

I realise the safe/unsafe modifications is a huge can of worms and a big fat grey area to boot, but if it prevents more barry bodge jobs from making it to the roads, as apposed to well thought out, realistic modifications (IVA guidelines come in here somewhere i'm sure) then that's great.

Edit - I will add, i'm not in support of this legislation if it means more costs to achieve the same goal, but if it means that we can still put our machines on the road, wonderful. I'm just making the point that for the majority of cases, if they want to get something passed, they will!

What a load of jumped upi shit. Thr proposal clearly states that 'before any car can be put on the market'. Right, so before you can sell it as a manufacturer. How can this possibly be anything to do with existing cars?

At the moment there is only 5719 signatures

It needs 100,000 to stand a chance of getting debated in Parliament
