Go and sign up to the 205gtidrivers.co.uk forum, on there is all the info you will need. The joining process is a little awkward but it is worth the effort.
As for rust, there are a few very localised areas which can suffer, but compared to other 80s/90s hatchbacks they are very well rustproofed, any significant rot is usually attributable to previous poorly repaired accident damage.
The main achillies heel is the rear beam assembly, this uses shafts that run on needle roller bearings, the seals fail letting water in, this rots the bearings and leads to the trailing arm either seizing solid or collapsing giving big negative camber. A rebuilt axle is the wrong side of £400 once fitted so this is one point worth checking carefully.
In general the main mechanical bits are strong enough, but remember even the youngest cars are 20 yr old now, unless there is good evidence of replacement suspension bits etc then expect it to be pretty tired in all honesty.
Have you got a link on the net to the car in question?
I am site admin on 205gtidrivers and own three of them so I am not just spouting hearsay or guesswork.

Agreed, I had a Sorento green limited edition with full black leather interior and green carpets. Loved it. Didn't find it very reliable but that was mine, hadn't been looked after, ended up putting an Mi16 engine in it and trust me it's the most fun I've had in a front wheel drive car. *happy* (mini not on the road yet)
Don't be put off by the front slam panel not being the same colour as the car, if it is it's probably had a crash, they were a different colour from the factory (Beige if i remember). If sunroof model check it hasn't stuck fast to the rubber seal from lack of use.

A mate of mine has 2 of the turbo-technic conversions 205gtis, still want to buy one from him. :)

Balls! I bought one of these as a run about when I was building my mini and I never did anything to it as every weekend the ruddy 205 would break!
