Hi guys,

Before i fitted my oil pump I inspected it and everything looked fine so in it went.
The problem im having is if I don't start the car for a few days I have to re prime the oil pump.

My friend surggested it could be to do with the non return doofer in the filter housing, what do you guys think?

Just to add there is an oil cooler I between the block and filter housing.
it's really annoying and if possible I don't want to have to access the oil pump.

Thanks
James

I had this once on my last engine it was the oil pump gasket but just as likely to be the o-ring on the box-block join
How is the oil cooler mounted? It could be that draining out through the oil filter
The ball valve in the filter housing is an over pressure valve

I get the same with mine, oil cooler on the out rigger for front subframe, maybe it is the oil emptying from the cooler..

for the oil to drain back, there must be air getting in, whether that is from knackered engine bearings, leaky oil system, damaged pump gasket or missing O ring between block and gearbox.

Oil should not drain back so long as there is an oil film on the bearing journals. Works the same way as the old pub party trick where a full glass of water can be turned upside down with only a beer mat stopping from pouring out.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Never had this happen till I moved the oil cooler from the bottom front of the engine to the position on the brace bar..

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

If the hose or hoses are in an upright. Position, there's your problem... especially the one from the feed from the block to the cooler

Hi Steve, only just seen your post is there any way to stop this, such as a one way valve or some thing.. Alan
