I bought a 2nd hand flywheel on Ebay. Once fitted to my car, the starter engine just jams in there locking everything up. What I need to know, is what happens if one uses a proper Mini starter motor on a Verto clutch. I've got a feeling that the flywheel I bought has got a Verto starter ring. Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem. |

sounds like that is the problem to me. Yeah if yuo use the wrong starter with the wrong starter ring/flywheel with the wrong ring on then it locks up |

How do I indentify the Verto versus the proper Mini flywheel. Tooth height, distance between the teeth?? On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:

the angled bit on the teeth, if the corners facing the engine block are removed its a verto ring, if the corners removed face the inner wing its pre-verto IIRC .. I ran a pre-verto ring gear with a verto starter for a few months, as my "spare" engine was a pre-verto and i couldnt be arsed rewiring and swapping out the starter. turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)

should add that will only identify the ring gear, could be a pre-verto flywheel running a later ring gear. turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)
