Would I be right in thinking that if your oil cooler was upsidedown and the pipes went down'ish would it drain back to the sump?

No. There are usually anti-drainback valves either in the filter housing or filter.

If you think of it like a radiator in your central heating, you have to bleed the highest point to get the air out and get the water to the top, wouldnt you have the same problem with an upside down oil cooler? I seriously doubt it! |

I would tend to agree, but then how do these new fangled engines not suffer with air traps in the oil filters that point upwards? I defy anyone to be able to screw on one of those oil filters after it has been filled with oil, and not spill some! On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:
Is it A-Series only? I think it should be... So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'... On 26th Oct, 2004 Tom Fenton said:

Oil is a lot thicker than water, so pushes air easier, and is pressure pumped unlike water in a cooling (or heating) system. www.topcatcustom.co.uk |

I'd say the pressures involved mean air locks arent an issue. Although had never really thought about it.

You say that stevie but my mrs's dad has a spitfire and hes been looking into a filter probe that make the filter drain less when standing, as they do drain.
