Got play in my o/s front wheel so ive change the bearin and washer thing.

But the play is still there.

Could the hub be flared?

Rotherham, South Yorkshire

ball joints, fooked CV joint...

Did you torque it up with the big flat washer, then remove that and fit the conical washer?

Its all down to the thickness of the spacer between the bearings. It can be just a nats dick too thick, and the result is slight play in the assembly.

I know this from experience, but mre recently, I bought a New Old Stock set of Timken bearings, Made In England and the part number stamped (not etched) into the outer race, came with instalation instruction suggesting that if there is still play in the assembly, to change the spacer for a slightly shorter one, but never suggested where or how to get or achieve this lol.

The real problem is that new bearings and spacers will usually not resolve the problem. This could be down to wear in the bearing seats in the hub.

There are two methods to resolve the problem. Replace the hub with one that is not worn, or surface grind a nats dick off the spacer.

Assuming you've ruled out ball joints, I'd check the drive flange and cv joint for wear as well.

The bearing surface of the cv can wear where the bearings sit on it and the cv can wear where it buts up against the cv. I've seen a few cars where this has resulted in play

Sproket seems to be on the right track.

What Sproket said has happend to me, the only way you will correct this is to replace all worn parts, these are hub, bearings and drive flange, or the quick fix is to take a bit off the spacer, I kept taking a bit off the spacer in my lave until all the play was gone, only replaced bearings and drive flange.. this happened to me for years. constantly undoing the big bearing nut. the culprit was shitty quality hub and CV. OR just the hub. the hub diddnt fit correctly on the splines on the CV = play = loosen the nut and it sheared the split pin before anyone asks if i had one!

i bought the minispares higher grade hubs and took some Cvs to the shop to make sure they were a perfect fit!

Well ive had it to bits again and took a smidgin off the spacer ring which has got rid of half the play.

On further inspecion there is some wear on the cv stub so shall replace them *smiley*

Cheers all
