I bought a spare shell about 3 years ago - V5C, everything valid as far as I could tell, but did little with it apart from pulling out all the usefull bits.

No, I was confused to start with. The dood before seems to be claiming on his insurance while driving another car, which lots of policies allow.

For what it's worth, I let them view it - it was very clear they were trying to block a fraudulent claim and every fraudulent claim that people get away with increases the cost of insurance for the honest people.

Informed the insurance company of what happend ect. Two weeks later they are claiming whiplash and 3k of damage to there car utter cunts. It just took ages to arrange since my first post. A couple of minutes of him looking and twenty minutes of chatting about cars/DVLA/insurance in general. He told me that his job has changed noticably over the last few years from an occassional "possible" fraud to be investigated to over 1/3 of his work being fraud related .... I'm flabbergasted that they are actually investigating any fraud. Normally they bend over backwards to throw money at illegal claimants, then when someone genuine makes a claim, they treat them like criminals. 9.85 @ 145mph
