Which is better suited? I already have the S-setup installed, with good discs, but am not adverse to
buying a new set of flanges and discs as I will get a good price for a complete setup on the used market over here...

I don't know if the track is the same between the two setups - I remember a calver article comparing hubs and drive flanges ages ago, but no idea which magazine out of the stack to look in. Personally, I'd prefer as little offset as possible.

Finally - if the alloy-4pot calipers, and pads are the same for 7.5" or 7.9" setups, does that mean they hang over the side of the disc on the S setup, or are inside of the disc (in which case why not just machine them smaller) on the 7.9" setup??? I've honestly never understood this - but never really looked into it before either....

I've got the minispares alu callipers. They use the same pads whether it's 7.5" or 8.4" disks. I went for 7.5" disks as I needed new disks and flanges so got ones that matched the callipers.

Turned down 8.4's with the normal drive flange (non S type). Otherwise you'll need spacers on the calipers to move them further in towards the car.

The callipers come with the spacer though...

Alright, that is all good to know.

Does anyone know if the track is the same on S vs 8.4"

Not sure, but I think you might need spacers and longer bolts to use s discs.

That or the spacers are there to take into account for the option to use vented disks.

Best check with your favoured supplier!

I'm using the minispares 7.5 calipers on turned down 8.4" solid discs and did not need any spacers. Though the calipers came with a set. (bought second hand so not sure if there extra)

The wheel track is the same Dave although as pointed out above the disc is in a slightly different position, about 1/2" each side iirc, and there are spacers supplied with the callipers to suit either.
Id say there is no benefit over either disc so use whatever you already have.
I have 8.4" turned down to 7.5. EBC Green stuff hung over the edge of the disc but the cheapo pads that I now have (which work better) fit nicely - there must be variation in manufacturers

I seriously doubt it!

Thanks for the info Paul - I may as well stick with what is currently fitted, and sell the S calipers alone.
Which cheapo pads are you reffering to?
