How deep a foundation do you reckon for a 3 coarse high brick wall? I seriously doubt it! |

it depends if you want it to move over time, the deeper and wider the base the more stable it will be in future,

it all depends on the type of soil you have. if you have loose soil then you may need to go down a fair way, but if it is hard/clay like soil you should get away with a shallow foundation. I would build it 300 x 150 and have 2 courses of brick work below ground level, then 3 courses above G/L and then back fill. The turbo build has finally started |

300mm depth on that should be more than enough. The turbo build has finally started |

Is it A-Series only? I think it should be... So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'... On 26th Oct, 2004 Tom Fenton said:

Just put it straight on top the ground 50mm of cement just to get it level why waste money on concrete and time for 3 coarse 225mm high. if you want you could turn some bricks the other way like they used too years ago on garden walls, but I wouldn't the wall is decorative that it. Craig

To meke a proper job, you need to excavate right down to bedrock, this rock needs to be at least 60 rockwell, if its not then you need to blast, keep blasting untill you find some of that black volcano rock, [fucking hard shit] then , and only then lay a 2M wide high strength reinforced concrete strip 600 mm thick, leave said strip to sure for 5 years to ensure untimate cured strength, [go to pub many times whilst you wait] then use 200nm concrete blocks in the foundation to bring up to ground level, once at ground level backfill, then leave for another 5 years to settle/compact. only now can you safelt lay the three course of decorative brick safe in the knowlwedge that you did the jod right first time around, .

150mm deep width of your shovel and leave the concrete down a bit to get a course or 2 of bricks below ground.
My build thread..

Its a curved retaining wall, theres 200mm difference in ground level. The curve of the wall (62" radius) will give it strength, I did the foundation 8" wide x 8" deep. Ill get onto the bricks later in the week after building the decking frame.
I seriously doubt it! |

WORD!!! So this is why it took so long for you to build the wall in your back garden!! Now we know!!

200mm retention shouldn't be an issue if the ground conditons are good |

The ground is made up of around 7" top soil then rock hard clay with loads of natural stone. Took a whole day to dig out cos the spade wont go through cos of the stone.
I seriously doubt it! |
