Hello, i have had a go with the search and diddnt find any comparison to these two brands. i know for a fact forge are one of the dogs bollox for intercoolers but what about greddy? i have found one suitable and approx the same size but for half the price! so im wondering if it will be as good as the forge one?

Heres some specs:

Forge £186
------
Core - 500mm x 60mm x 175mm
51mm In/Outlet

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Awright jonny? Iv'e got a forge one-06 type-massive i know but the build and finish on it is top qaulity. Forge can do one to your own spec aswell.
Hope this helps

If the Greddy one fits your needs and is the same core as pictured, I'd be buying it.

I'm sure Forge do cheap stuff as well as good. But the staggered core pictured on the Greddy was only used on the very expensive Greddy and Apexi stuff a few years back.

At that price it is a bargain.

If the Greddy core is the one in the picture, then as Stevie says - it is a good price for a good core.
However - I purchased a core (without end caps) approx four years ago that was pictured as this design, and what arrived was the same size, but had the crappy old-school greddy turbulators picutred here:

Also, be sure it is a greddy, and not a knockoff - I saw images on another forum of one of these tapered cores, and the "tapered" part had no turbulators in there, which would allow air to freely flow down there, without giving up any heat.

You just need to carefully look at the insides of the core that you recieve, and make a judgement on if it will allow the air to flow cleanly through it, or will encourage the air to dissipate heat and do what it is meant to.

I used an intercooler from a smart car which had a great core - but I've never found another of the same core; all others have a very widely spaced fins like on the large crappy volvo intercooler cores (which only work because they are so large).
Jimbo has two cores from the escort RS turbo side-by-side and these works very well.

I have one of the Forge ones. Before, I had a Chinese one. The Chinese one was rammed full of turbulators, the Forge one was a much 'cleaner' design.

My thought was that because of the size of the IC I use, the higher flow Forge design was better suited to my placement. The Chinese one certinally got rid of heat, but at a massive cost in presure drop. Infact, the chinese one lost all its heat in the first half, meaning it was to big and just causing pressure drop.

An IC is always a compromise between pressure drop and heat loss. so you need to think about the turbulator design relative to the size.

Turbo Dave - heres some pics of it. maybe you or anyone else could tell me if its genuine.

It came in a box which had greddy all over it in the original font. and some chinese on it too... then it was heat sealed in a plastic bag inside the box which had greddy all over it. the fins are painted in silver? which im not sure if they had that as new? and its got a dent (maybe from postage) and the welding doesnt look that great? and the 2 end pieces are cast in ally. theres cast marks on the inside.

Heres some pics.

At £95 you'd be silly to spend any more money. It looks like a good unit.

Although it also looks like the end tanks have been welded onto the core by someone, as opposed to having been supplied by Greddy like that.
