Morning Gents,

As always tried the search function which helped loads, but not quite enough....

With some excellent help from you lot thus far, the head gasket is doing what it should and the oil is now the correct colour.....

The car is now running well, if a little rich.

I still seem to have the old problem of smoke on boost and a little at idle (very intermittent). on a previous thread a couple of you mentioned turbo oil seals maybe the culprit.

So i'm thinking of rebuilding the turbo, or just changing said seals. Firstly is there a guide somewhere to the process i've missed? pics would be very useful as this will be my first attempt, and I have a

Secondly, if the turbo is out, should i rebuild completely or is it worth just changing the seals and seeing how it goes?

Lastly, the turbo is a TB0234 - which i believe is from a peugeot diesel. is this a T2 variant? and as such would i be looking for T2 parts?

As always thanks for your collective wisdom.

Ben

Search and ye will find!

No idea about the turbo model, I'd do the entire thing while its apart.

Have you checked the valve stem seals?

Thanks Kean - no idea how i missed that. Must have read every other thread on the subject......

haven't checked stem seals, i might as well do them whilst the engine is out i guess. Sure i remember reading somewhere it was best to run without? or have i made that up?

Bolderdash! If there is any play in the exhaust valve guides, the turbo sucks oil down on overrun and it smokes it's tits of. Experienced this on both the upside down skip and John's clubman (refused MOT test as a result). The cheep ones that come with the head set are useless, get decent ones to sort it. MRA sold some good ones, but he's gone bust now...

So what would you recommend? seals as normal? any seals specifically better than others to use?

As the MRA ones are NLA, those look to be your best option.

If there is enough play to smoke on overrun its time for a rebuild *wink* and if it smokes on overrun 99% guarentee its the inlets due to the almost absolute vacuum they will be dealing with
