Hi Ben I haven't stripped my engine down but I used Slick 50 for the first time last year.

All I can say is I've NEVER had a Turbo engine that I haven't had to keep setting the tappets. and this one I've done a few 1000 mile on and the tappets are still the same as set way back. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS I SLICK 50ed THE ENGINE.

People can draw there own conclusions.

SOrry but slick 50 is junk!

Oil HAS additivies that make up slick 50 in it already!

If you change the balance of these aditives without the knowlege required (ie your an oil specialist working for a company like Castrol) then your not likly to make things better!!

MW, try a better oil.

I must admit I am toying with the idea of using Mobil 1 15/50 in mine when it is run in. But can't decide whether to do that or to use something cheaper and just keep changing it more regularly.........

Hope the leg sorts itself out.......cat has forgiven you I think.........

Yes Alex I better us better oil then the Torco fully synthetic 20/50!

It's one of the best you can get!!!

Ben I'm not saying it's the be all and end all mate just told peps this years findings on the tapet front and people can take from it what they like.

But heres another one for you.........................

A few years ago a mate had pug come in to his garage because it was smoking, it was a very new car and after many tests they couldn't see any reason for the smoke.

So it got sent back to the dealers/manufactures to see if they could fine out why it was smoking.

The engine had done only few 1000 miles, when they stripped it down there was almost no wear or bedding in of the engine.

It turns out that the person that bought the car from new had put slick 50 in it from NEW!! and it just wasn't able to bed in correctly, like normal engine does and the smoking if you have it stops.

this is from a really good friend and NOT a PUB story.

personaly speaking once you run an engine in properly then there is no reason why products like slick 50, lightning ect can only but assist in the longtivity of an engine, but also its still down to the driver to still use quality oils and frequant oil changes.

ive used it on my old rebuilt 1275 engine after bottom end rebiuld
then added slick 50 no probs with the engine, when i carried out a full rebuild as the block had a slight warp in it you could feel the ptfe on the shells so it obvisly do work but to whaT overall extent i dont no but willie has found it usfull so enogh said.

also my dad use to be a chemist years ago with 3 in 1 and actually made oils for the lotus gp team in the late 60,s and this type of additive was being devolped then and reduse frictional losses no end and that was then !!!!!.

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

just a basic test of of slick 50 say would be to get one of our motors on the rollers and do a power run

then add the slick 50

run it for 10 mins and then let he engine cool to the same temp as the first power run

and see if there is any? improvment if any in HP ??

there should be a larger gain!
if it does what it says on the tin

as we know the A series engine oil is doing the engine, box & diff so we SHOULD see a bigger NET gain over a none A series transverse engine

this would help to covince me some way to dig a little deeper into finding more about this product*indifferent*

I might well be... but not for your application!!!

Else you wouldn't be having ware issues... Cam followers wear excessivly is either from poor manufacture or poor lubrication.

Is Torco the only brand you have tried?

i think you will find high poundage springs, 1.5 and 1.7 rockers are the biggest killers of cams and followers, this may be is were the slick may come in handy. and i did say may come in handy

I used slic 50 in my 1275 mini 30 engine it had 60k ish miles on and gear box was getting "fragile" slic 50 did make the box feel better. Also slic 50 quote that there product doesnt need to be added at every oil change iirc it was every 30,000 miles but that could be way out.

personally I would be wary of using an aditive containing ptfe in an engine,

If i am corectly informed when PTFE is burnt it releases florine gas which is really not very nice at all, and extremly corosive.
