I have a decent quality block/gearbox gasket set and plenty of patience but are there any tips for minimizing the chances of an oil leak? Should I just use dry gaskets for the block/gearbox and front plate or should I use sealant as well? Any help appreciated! On 7th Nov, 2008 Nic said:

Stag Wellseal. All other known gasket goo pales into insignificance.

Like he says. Half the battle is careful assembly, with all mating surfaces clean and true. |

OK thanks for the help guys. I usually use some kind on sealant, I got good results once but last time had a leak at the timing cover end and the rear gearbox selector. On 7th Nov, 2008 Nic said:

Your very lucky to get an A series engine not have a small leak some where, after a short while after building I find you start to get the classic leaks such as the rod change to the gearbox is favorite, diff drive flanges, timing cover oil seal.. Main Build

Pretty much the leaks I get. I have the minspares leaky kit thing for the rod change but noticed it was still leaking. Also timing cover oil leaks, seams to be anywhere where there's a seal.
