I have a decent quality block/gearbox gasket set and plenty of patience but are there any tips for minimizing the chances of an oil leak? Should I just use dry gaskets for the block/gearbox and front plate or should I use sealant as well? Any help appreciated!

Like he says. Half the battle is careful assembly, with all mating surfaces clean and true.

OK thanks for the help guys. I usually use some kind on sealant, I got good results once but last time had a leak at the timing cover end and the rear gearbox selector.

Your very lucky to get an A series engine not have a small leak some where, after a short while after building I find you start to get the classic leaks such as the rod change to the gearbox is favorite, diff drive flanges, timing cover oil seal..

Pretty much the leaks I get. I have the minspares leaky kit thing for the rod change but noticed it was still leaking. Also timing cover oil leaks, seams to be anywhere where there's a seal.
